Foundation Council

The Council of the HfG Ulm Foundation makes decisions concerning the assets of the School for Designing HfG Ulm and its acitivities. The Council nominates and supervises the Board of Trustees and is repsonsible for the decision making of the Foundation. The Council checks whether the purpose of the Foundation is always adhered to and put into practice; it is also in its responsibility to approve of the general and financial key feautures.

Since 2006, this office is held by the Lord Mayor of Ulm, Alexander Wetzig. He attracted international attention because of the redesigning of the socalled Ulm Center in which he exhibited great sensitivity as to architectural and urban planning. In this function the Ulm politician followed the international renowned architect Fred Hochstrasser, who as chairman was in charge of the Board from 1989 to 2006. Hochstrasser has special ties with the Foundation School for Designing HfG Ulm: as a student, under the first President Max Bill was decisively involved with the construction of of the School for Designing on the Ulm Kuhberg. He now continues to belong to the Council of the Foundation as Honorary Chairman.

In order to guarantee a broad social acceptance of the Foundation, the Council consists of maximally 15 honorary members from the Federal Government, the State, the City as well as from industry and the Sciences. One member is delegated by each of the following institutions: the State Ministry for the Sciences, Research and the Arts,  the Department/Ministry of Commerce, the Department/Ministry of Finances of the State of Baden-Württemberg as well as of the Federal Ministry of the Interior or the Ministry for Commerce, and finally the City of Ulm.  The additional ten members come from the University of Ulm, from the sphere of designing, public life and the economy.
