Innovative Design-Cluster gets new name

Ulm, 5. Februar 2010  (hfg) – The design campus at upper Kuhber has a new name: „Center for Design HfG Ulm“. The HfG Ulm Foundations‘ public call to come up with new names for the design campus in the legendary Max Bill buildings, resulted in 120 suggestions. A jury of the foundations’ board members selected five names in the first round and finally slected Thomas Vogels proposal “Center for Design HfG Ulm” unanimously.

With the new name “Center for Design HfG Ulm” the so far project title ‘Designparkk HfG Ulm’ is obsolete. The new name may appear conservative at first sight. However, in the HfG Ulm understanding, the selected name is simple, clear and easy to understand. This new name makes the synthethis between the past and the future possible and therefore allows a view beneath the surface, explains Dr. Dieter Bosch, managing director and head of the foundations’ board. Together with Alexander Wetzig, head of the foundations’ council, he handed over the prize of a “Ulm Stool” to the name award winner, Thomas Vogel.

„My name proposal is timeless and fresh. “There is no better name, if one doesn’t want to simply copy the brand HfG Ulm,” says Thomas Vogel, who had handed in his suggestion as one of the first participants of the contest. “The term ‘center’ clarifies the complimentary concept of the centers’ three-pillar-model.
